The Country Day School teachers and students celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday

In honor of the author Dr. Seuss for his birthday, Teachers at The Country Day School read "Green Egss and Ham" in English, Spanish and French for children in Kindergarten through5th grade.  The readings took place in the school Great Hall at 10:30am.

Event raises money for Marines

A charity event on March 11 will help raise money for U.S. Marines in Afghanistan.

"A Cause to Dance" will be on March 11 from 9pm-2am at Cactus Jacks located at 1117 Jordan Lane.

Kids in the kitchen

The Kids in the Kitchen Program is a partnership between the Huntsville Hospital Foundation and the Junior League of Huntsville to help 4th grade students learn healthy eating habits.

The events are going to be held March 1st-3rd and March 8th-10th with 8:30am and 10:30 am sessions at the Huntsville Hospital's Medical Mall Wellness Center.

A Reading Across America event was held a Montview Elementary School on Monday and it's also Dr. Seuss's birthday!

Mr. Crhonister and Mr. Culver read to the student body at Montview Elementary as part of the Read Across America program.  As you can see, both are sporting the Dr. Seuss hats!

200 car burglaries maybe solved

Huntsville police have arrested two men suspected in 200 car burglaries in the city. Police have arrested Robert Summers and charged him with 2 counts of unlawful breaking and entering to an automobile and 1 count of possession of burglary tools.

Lemuel Gray was arrested on 3 counts unlawful breaking and entering an automobile and 1 count of possession of burglary tools.

10 new acedemic programs at UAH

The university has reached the first of its goals for the power of 10 initiative. Ten new academic programs!

A bachelor's degree in Earth Systems Science was approved for the fall of 2008 and began with 13 students enrolled. Today, that program has 65 students.

Mayor Battle's book club

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, along with partners from First Book of North Alabama, RBC Bank and Boeing announced "Mayor Battle's Book Club," a program that will give nearly 3,000 students in seven schools across Huntsville a personal library of books between now and the end of the school year. The program officially kicks-off Wednesday, March 2nd as part of national "Read Across America Day."

"Mayor Battle's Book Club" is sponsored by First Book of North Alabama, RBC Bank, Boeing and an anonymous donor.  Mayor Battle and First Book-North Alabama are working to strengthen literacy in Huntsville in local elementary schools. Through program, nearly 3,000 Huntsville elementary students will receive books to take home and keep. The program is the first in the state.
