IRS offers tips as deadline approaches

With April arriving this week, the Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers that the filing deadline for 2010 tax returns is April 18th, not April 15th. Emancipation Day is observed April 15th in Washington, DC, so most federal offices there will be closed. By law, the tax filing deadline for the nation is moved to the next business day, Monday, April 18.

Here are some tips from IRS spokesman Dan Boone for those who haven't filed yet:

1. Don't miss the filing deadline, especially if you owe taxes. File your tax return or an extension form by April 18 to avoid the late filing penalty. How much could it be? If you owe $1,000 and file late, the penalty could be as much as $250.

Huntsville MS walk

The Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society will hold its annual Walk MS event in Huntsville on Saturday, April 2nd at 8:30am.

More than 400 walkers are expected to come out to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens to help raise $60,000 to support direct services for more that 4,000 people living with MS in Alabama.

UA-Huntsville LANPARTY

The fifth annual UAH LAN Party will be on Thursday, April 14th from 3pm-midnight in the University Center Exhibit Hall.

Tournaments announced so far include Street Fighter 4, Starcraft 2, Smash Bros Brawl, and Rock Band 3. This is a free event for EVERYONE, whether or not you are a UAH student.
