UAH creates honors college, space science department | Community Spirit
The University of Alabama in Huntsville recently expanded their institution with the addition of an honors college, space science department, and a lease for an early education school.
UAH has added an honors college to its campus in order to enrich the university’s academic environment and motivate high-achievement students to attend. The University of Alabama Board of Trustees approved the plan on Friday, also giving their approval to the creation of the Department of Space Science and a lease with the Rise School of Huntsville.
UAH is raising their honors program to new heights will the establishment of an honors college. This college will give UAH a competitive advantage against other institutions. This new designation will also encourage donor support and extend learning experiences to more students.
The Department of Space Science within the College of Science will raise the university’s national and international importance and advance its support of NASA’s mission. The new department will focus the strong working relationship between the Center for Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research and an academic department.
The Board of Trustees also approved UAH’s lease of a part of campus to the Rise School of Huntsville, a non-profit organization that provides early childhood education to children with and without developmental disabilities. Children from six weeks to six years old can attend this school.
