Community members ban together to save UAH hockey team | Community Spirit

A grassroots group has been formed to save the UAH hockey team.
University officials say the program is under review.
The team says it has already gather pledges of more than half-a-million dollars for the next three years.
At a news conference Thursday morning, community leaders stressed that the hockey team is an important attraction not only for UAH, but for the Huntsville area.
“It is Huntsville’s only Division I sports team and brings national recognition not only to the University but to the community as well. We need Dr. Portera to work with us to keep this program at the NCAA Division I level. Going to club level hockey is not an option and will only kill the program and provide no real benefit to the community,” said Doug Martinson, a former school board member.
"Quite frankly, everybody that we've talked to is absolutely shocked that this is even being considered," added former UAH hockey player Nathan Bowen.
The team's first game of the season is set for the first week of October.
