Huntsville Police announce road closings, detours for WAFF Veterans Day Parade | Community Spirit

The WAFF 48 Veterans Day Parade is set for Monday, November 12th at 11:00 a.m. The parade will air live on WAFF and online at waff.com.
The following is a release from the Huntsville Police Department :
Huntsville’s annual celebration of Veteran’s Day will be on Monday, November 12, 2012. The roads in downtown Huntsville will be closed in stages for the parade beginning at 8:00 a.m. All of the roadways for the parade will be closed by 10:45 a.m. and the parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. The parade should be finished and all roads will be open by 1:15 p.m. Citizens traveling in the downtown area on Monday should expect two hours of slow moving detours in the area and drive with extreme caution due to the large number of children and pedestrians crossing the roads to view the parade. The Huntsville Police Department will be posting officers at all affected intersections to keep traffic flowing and business open in the area.
The parade will assemble and begin in parking Lot K at Clinton and Woodson Avenue and follow the same route as last year. The units in the parade will leave Lot K and travel north on Woodson Street, turn right to travel east on Holmes Avenue, turn left to travel north then east on Monroe Street, turn right to travel south on Green Street, turn right to travel west on Williams Avenue, turn right to travel north on Monroe Street, turn left to travel west on Clinton Avenue and end at lot K.
Monroe Street between Jefferson Street and Washington Street will be closed at 6:00 AM on the morning of the parade for placement of equipment in the roadway at Veterans Memorial Park. Washington Street southbound from Pratt Avenue/I-565 into the downtown area will be closed at 10:00 a.m. on the morning of the parade for lineup of vehicles that will be in the parade.

East on Clinton Avenue
Exit through gaps in parade on Clinton Avenue at Green Street
VBC Garage
Exit onto Church Street. Travel south on Church Street or east on Clinton Avenue and exit the area through gaps in the parade.
