HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Volunteers with Huntsville's NAPS Team arrived in Newtown, Connecticut late Sunday night.

The group rerouted from Florida after hearing about the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

NAPS, or the National Association for Prevention of Starvation, is a non-profit volunteer relief organization based in Huntsville. NAPS got its start at Oakwood University.

The volunteers held a prayer and music vigil with emergency responders Sunday night.

Monday, volunteers will spend time with families at Sandy Hook Elementary School. They will later attend one of the funerals.

NAPS sent volunteers to Virginia Tech after the shooting in 2007 and to New York after 9/11.
