Teachers shape young lives, sometimes face dangers | News

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- When you take on a job as police officer or firefighter, danger comes with the job.

Now, in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook, some teachers and future teachers have similar feelings. 

Jacob Wray just graduated from Athens State University and is about to step into a classroom as a teacher.

His passion for teaching is pushing him to take on elementary education, but he believes he also has another purpose.

"I didn't want kids to not have a male role model in their life. I want to be able to affect them in a positive way," said Wray.

Recently, he's been going through a roller coaster of emotions since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

He has an interesting perspective because before transferring to ASU, he took classes at another university that dealt with its own tragedy.

"I was there with the UAH shootings. It really scares you and makes you think about this even more," added Wray.

Wray will be the first teacher in his family and he said he knows the importance of shaping young lives.
