Stream it: 'Sports Night'

"Sports Night" is the show that got me interested in working at a TV station. I can guarantee you that I was the only eighth-grader in my little Texas middle school that was tuning into this show as religiously as I was. Come to think of it, I was probably the only person in the area watching it; "Sports Night" lasted two seasons before being unceremoniously canceled in 2000.

This is a shame because the concept had legs. Set behind the scenes of a nightly sports news show, "Sports Night" was the television debut for creator and head writer Aaron Sorkin, who would set up similar fly-on-the-wall shows "West Wing," "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," and "The Newsroom."

Cheers for Craft Beer: Rocket Republic is Coming Soon

Cheers for Craft Beer: Rocket Republic is Coming Soon

Did you know that Madison County has several breweries in the works?  We have so many talented people in our area, it’s no wonder Madison County is growing by leaps and bounds with craft beer breweries.

What I find so wonderful about the craft beer market is the camaraderie between breweries.  While they compete on the shelves, they have a common goal to educate people about craft beer and to help each other succeed. It’s very Musketeer-ish (all for one, one for all).

A WAFF 48 Wedding: Engagement Photos and more planning!

A WAFF 48 Wedding: Engagement Photos and more planning!

It may be Kentucky Derby weekend, but we’re also coming down the stretch to our big day! We’ve had a lot of things in the works and just finished taking our engagement pictures.

Sarah and I were a little afraid at how they’d turn out because we both joke that we’re not very photogenic, but we couldn’t be more pleased at the results. Butler Studio out of the Shoals is doing the photography for our wedding and also agreed to do our engagement photo session. They helped us narrow down a location, gave us tips and recommendations on what to wear (you’d be surprised at what colors don’t photograph well), and made what could’ve been a very stressful time – extremely fun and enjoyable! They were also very flexible when we realized that we wouldn’t be able to take our pictures in downtown Florence because of the massive crowds due to First Fridays.

New director for UAH Propulsion Research Center

New director for UAH Propulsion Research Center

Dr. Robert A. Frederick Jr. has been named director of the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Propulsion Research Center.

“Founding Director Dr. Clark Hawk started the Center 22 years ago and asked me to help him. Five years ago yesterday, Dr. Hawk passed away of a heart attack, and it was one of his goals for me to become the director,” Dr. Frederick said. “It’s quite an honor to step into his shoes because a lot of the successes we’ve had are based on his vision and the initial direction he established. It’s a great privilege for me to be entrusted with carrying his vision  forward and overseeing its future direction.”

“I wanted to announce my appointment as director to our team on the anniversary of his passing as my way of honoring Dr. Hawk's vision and investments in the PRC and in me.”

As director, Dr. Frederick said his goal is to continue to bring students and research together at the Center, to the benefit of both.
