Huntsville Schools start summer food service program

Tennessee Valley children will be able to get a hot meal at school during the summer.

Huntsville City Schools will start its "Summer Food Service Program" Monday.

The program include nutritious meals to children from June 3rd to July 26th.

Hot meals will be available Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch at 10 schools.  two schools will serve dinner.

Puerto Rico teams take top spots in moonbuggy race

NASA declared the winners of the 20th NASA Great Moonbuggy Race at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville. Team 1 from Teodoro Aguilar Mora Vocational High School of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, won first place in the high school division; racers from the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao claimed the college-division trophy.

The winning teams out-raced more than 89 teams from 23 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, India, Germany, Mexico and Russia. Approximately 600 student drivers, engineers and mechanics -- plus their team advisors and cheering sections -- gathered April 26-27 for the 20th "space race."

Test drive a new Ford to raise money for schools

Woody Anderson Ford will bring Ford Motor Company’s "Drive 4 UR School" program to the Harvest/Monrovia community. For will raise up to $6,000 for Sparkman High School.

Ford will bring several new cars to Sparkman High and will donate $20 for each test drive (up to 300 people) to Sparkman High School Softball to go towards funding the team. 

The event will be on April 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sparkman High, 2612 Jeff Road in Harvest. Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license. There is a limit of one test drive per household.  All test drives will last approximately 7 to 10 minutes.

 

Woody Anderson Ford will take the program to Hazel Green High School to fund the football team on May 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The same stipulations apply for test driving a new Ford.

Huntsville City Schools are accepting applications for substitute teachers starting Monday.

The school system is looking to hire substitutes for the next school year.

You have until May 15 to apply.

Huntsville City Schools Accepting Substitute Teacher Applications for 2013-2014

Huntsville City Schools will be accepting substitute teacher applications for the upcoming 2013-2014 academic year beginning April 15, 2013 through May 15, 2013.  Under a new hiring process, HCS Substitutes will be competitively selected via online application through the Alabama State Department of Education employment website.

This is the only anticipated open season that substitute teacher applications will be accepted. Should more substitute teachers be required, HCS may publish other hiring windows as needed in the future.

Selected applicants will be expected to sign a commitment to substitute at least three days per semester.  Those who do not meet this requirement will be removed from the active roster of available substitutes and will be required to re-compete the following year.
